The Hope Hotel in Southend-on-Sea
Situated at the heart of the seafront in Southend and boasting panoramic views across the Thames Estuary, the Hope is set in an 18th Century Grade II listed Coaching Inn. 30 rooms offer our guests comfort and space, with satellite TV, in-room teas and coffee, free WIFI and full English breakfast as standard.
Facilities include a large traditional bar with live sports shown on four big-screen TVs, an expansive beer garden and a licensed restaurant. A furnished patio in front of the hotel provides an ideal spot to have a drink and watch the world go by. Our resident DJ plays 60s through 80s classics Friday through Sunday year round.
The Hotel is located 10 minutes from Southend Airport. Two railway stations within 5 minutes of the hotel allow our guests to be in the heart of London via high speed train within an hour. Lakeside Shopping Centre, one of the largest of its kind in the UK with 245 branded shops and restaurants, is a mere 40 minutes door to door.
Originating in the 6th Century as a Saxon village, Southend came to the fore in Edwardian times as both a centre for shopping along its famous High Street and an ideal place for Londoners to come and enjoy the sun and sea. Today, Southend remains a thriving seaside town, and is, of course, famous for being the proud owner of the longest pier in the world!
An array of restaurants from around the world offer our guests an enormous choice, both in cuisine and budget. Three casinos are located within walking distance of the Hotel, with no membership requirements. Southend pier is a minute's walk from our front door. Sea Life Aquarium is three minutes walk along the seafront. Adventure Island, a free-admission Fun Park with more than 40 rides and attractions from rollercoasters to Ghost trains, is two minutes from the Hotel. Two theatres, the Palace and the Cliffs Pavilion, are five minutes away and host the major touring plays and musicals, as well as top music acts. Old Leigh, with its cobbled streets, craft shops, pubs, fishing boats, wharfs and cockle sheds is only ten minutes away.
London Liverpool Street Station and London Fenchurch Street Station can be reached via train within one hour, with services running every 10 to 15 minutes. The route takes our guests through the idyllic Essex countryside, on into the world renowned London East End. A return ticket will generally cost approximately £20, however our staff can advise on travel cards and discounts before your trip.
Southend Airport is only ten minutes via taxi from the Hotel and the fare will cost under £15 for four people. Our staff will be happy to arrange both pickup and return with advanced notice.
Lakeside Shopping Centre is forty minutes via train from Southend and will cost between £14 and £20 for a return ticket.
We can arrange theatre tickets both for Southend and London's famous West End by prior request.

Great Little find!!
Was looking for a play to stay for the weekend on a big night out. So happy to have found this hotel bang on the seafront and in a great location. Reception was friendly and was shown to our cosy room overlooking the sea. Beds were so comfty as was the bedding. Breakfast included but we didn’t bother as both a little too fragile from the night before!! Overall great value hotel and defo would recommend anyone staying in Southend to stay here. Will be coming back for sure when it’s warmer!!

From the ownership and management down, the best hotel and pub is Southend
Its rare in these days of large pub multiples that you find a fantastic privately owned public house with letting rooms that offers the personal touch, service and all round experience that The Hope Hotel offers. I have been lucky enough to visit the Hope many times and I popped in a couple of days ago, and ended up staying for 5 hours purely and simply because the service, people and fun that I had made me change my plans for the entire day. A warm thanks to Ann Marie, George, Chris, Sean and Scott for making my trips to the Hope so much fun, looking forward to my next visit very much, Matt Stayed February 2016, travelled solo
